Jyotishpeeth Shankaracharya’s controversial statement: “Only Brahmins have the right to tell public stories”

Etawah, Uttar Pradesh: Jyotishpeeth Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has given a big and controversial statement. Reacting to the incident of misbehavior with non-Brahmin storytellers in Etawah, he said that only Brahmins have the right to tell religious stories in public.

Shankaracharya says that according to the scriptures, the work of interpreting religious texts and reading stories should be done only by Brahmins, because they are considered eligible and authorized for this. He also added that everyone in the society has their own religion and duty, and there should not be unnecessary interference in religious systems.

After this statement, while some traditional sections of the society have supported him, other sections of the society and many religious organizations have termed it casteist and unconstitutional. A heated debate has also erupted on social media regarding this issue.
