Consumers in Jaipur turned out to be smarter than smart meters, used to steal electricity with the help of remote!

While on one hand the government in Rajasthan is moving electricity consumers towards transparent billing by installing smart meters, some people of Jaipur are adopting new ‘high-tech’ methods to cheat this system. A case that came to light in Adarsh Nagar area surprised even the vigilance team of the electricity department.

They used to control the meter with a remote, the electricity bill was very low

Consumers named Naseem (wife of Qayum Khan) and Ayub Khan (son Mehboob Khan) of Jaipur had fitted a special device in their meter. This device was operated by remote control, with the help of which they could turn the meter on or off. This had a direct impact on their electricity bill – that is, the bill came less and theft was more.

When the team of the electricity vigilance department reached the spot and saw this high-tech Jugaad, they were also shocked. The team imposed fines on both the consumers – Naseem was fined ₹23,000 and Ayub Khan ₹25,000.

Big theft found in Bhankrota too, electricity was being drawn directly from the pole

The vigilance team then also inspected a cold storage – Surya Cold Storage Complex – in Bhankrota area. Here electricity was being drawn by bypassing the electricity meter and connecting illegal wires directly to the pole.

Meera Devi (resident of Hirapura) was held responsible for this theft and a fine of ₹1.09 lakh was imposed on her. A proper VCR (Vigilance Case Report) was prepared in the matter.

Notice issued, case will be registered if fine is not paid

Notice has been sent to all the four consumers as per the rules. If the fine is not paid within the stipulated time limit, a case will be registered against them in the Anti-Electricity Theft Police Station and legal action will be taken.

Conclusion:

People have now started resorting to technical Jugaad to cheat the smart meter system. But the vigilance team of the electricity department is also in action and is taking strict action on such cases. The public is appealed to avoid electricity theft, as it is not only illegal but also harmful to the society.
