From July 1, 2025, booking a Tatkal train ticket requires Aadhaar authentication. Without verifying your Aadhaar ID, no Tatkal ticket can be booked, either online or at a counter (effective July 15 for window bookings). This step, officials say, aims to crack down on mass-bookings by agents, who earlier grabbed most of the quota, leaving genuine passengers helpless.

Before this change, booking a Tatkal seat on routes like Delhi to Bihar or Varanasi felt like winning a lottery — tickets disappeared within seconds. But now, IRCTC’s website is showing seats available for up to 30 minutes or more after Tatkal windows open. Travelers are posting screenshots and sharing their experience directly with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on social media.

⏰ Booking Time Rules Revised
To ensure fairness, agents are now restricted from booking for the first 30 minutes of Tatkal window opening:

“Passengers are finally getting Tatkal tickets on high-demand routes. We’re receiving messages of appreciation from people across states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The Aadhaar rule has made emergency travel genuinely accessible again.”
