9 Deputy SPs in Uttar Pradesh, Including Anuj Chaudhary, Set for Promotion to Additional SP Rank

Lucknow, August 2025 — In a major administrative development, 19 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) from Uttar Pradesh, including the well-known officer Anuj Chaudhary, are set to be promoted to the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP). The promotions pertain to officers from the 2006 to 2012 batches, and the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) has already concluded its review.

Out of 29 names considered by the DPC, consensus was reached on promoting 19 officers. Their names will now be forwarded to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for final approval.

🚨 Discontent Among Unpromoted Officers

The promotion list has sparked discontent among several Provincial Police Service (PPS) officers who were not considered due to not completing 12 years of service. These officers have repeatedly urged the PPS Association to address the issue, citing numerous vacant ASP positions across the state.

A proposal to relax the 12-year eligibility rule was previously sent to the state government but was not approved, leaving many officers frustrated.

👮 Spotlight on Anuj Chaudhary

Among those promoted is Anuj Chaudhary, a 2012-batch PPS officer selected under the sports quota. He was honored with the Arjuna Award in 2005 for his achievements in athletics. Chaudhary gained national attention last year during the Shahi Jama Masjid survey, which turned violent. He was injured by gunfire during the unrest.

He also stirred controversy during a security briefing when Holi and Friday prayers coincided. His statement — “Holi comes once a year, Jumma comes 52 times. If someone has a problem with colors, they should stay indoors” — drew sharp reactions. However, CM Yogi Adityanath publicly supported his remarks, reinforcing Chaudhary’s image as a firm and outspoken officer.

Currently serving as Circle Officer (CO) in Chandausi, Chaudhary’s promotion has been confirmed by SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, though the official list is yet to be released.

🕵️ Past Allegations and Clearance

Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur had filed a complaint against Chaudhary, alleging violation of the model code of conduct for attending religious events in uniform. However, following an internal investigation, Chaudhary was given a clean chit, and the case was closed.

According to sources, the DPC meeting held on Saturday discussed all 29 candidates, including Chaudhary. The final promotion list is expected to be released soon by the state government.

Despite occasional controversies, Anuj Chaudhary continues to be recognized for his leadership and decisive actions, earning both praise and criticism within the department.
