Veteran leader Satyapal Malik, famous for his outspoken statements, passed away

Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik died today (Tuesday) at around 1 pm in Delhi’s RML Hospital. He was 78 years old. Satyapal Malik, who was in the headlines due to his statements, was ill for a long time. According to media reports, he had kidney related problems.

Entered politics in 1965

Inspired by socialist ideology, Satyapal Malik, who entered politics in 1965, held many important positions in his long public life. He started his political innings as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1974 and later served the country as an MP in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

Satyapal Malik, who was associated with various political parties, also took over as a Union Minister in 1990. In the last years of his tenure, he served as the Governor of several states. He became the Governor of Bihar in 2017, after which he was appointed Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in 2018. Satyapal Malik was the last Governor of Jammu and Kashmir when the special status of this state was abolished in 2019.

After this, he also served as the Governor of Goa and then Meghalaya. However, later Satyapal Malik fiercely attacked the Modi government at the Center. He made many serious allegations of corruption. Satyapal Malik was also against the three agricultural laws of the Center. During this time, the sharp statements made by him made a lot of headlines.
