Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on July 21, citing health reasons. His sudden decision had sparked intense speculation, with many believing he might later reveal the “real” reason behind the move. However, since stepping down, Dhankhar has kept a low profile and has not appeared in public, fueling further curiosity about his whereabouts.
Opposition lawmakers repeatedly questioned why there was no information about his public engagements or even his current location. Now, reports have finally shed light on the matter.
According to The Indian Express, Dhankhar has not moved anywhere new—he continues to live in the Vice President’s official residence. Though he has made no public statements and has not been seen at official events, he is still residing inside the Vice President’s Enclave. In fact, on August 6, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat appointed Kaustubh Sudhakar Bhalekar—who earlier served as Dhankhar’s senior private secretary—as his Personal Secretary in the capacity of Former Vice President.
Dhankhar had shifted to the newly built Vice President’s Enclave on Church Road in April last year. The residence and office complex were constructed as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project.
Following his resignation, there was strong speculation that Dhankhar would soon vacate the Vice President’s residence and move into a Type-8 government bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi, for which he is eligible as a former Vice President. These sprawling bungalows—ranging between 8,000 to 8,500 sq. ft.—are usually allotted to senior Union ministers, Supreme Court judges, and leaders of national parties. Reports suggested he had even begun preparations to shift, but as of now, he continues to stay at the official Vice President’s residence.
Meanwhile, political leaders have continued to raise concerns about the lack of updates on his health and location. Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, as well as Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, have both publicly asked, “Where is Jagdeep Dhankhar?” In a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, Raut highlighted that there was no clarity on the former Vice President’s address or health condition. Some MPs also claimed they tried to contact him but were unsuccessful.
Sibal went a step further, remarking, “We have heard of missing women in movies, but never of a missing Vice President. It has been days since his resignation, yet no one knows where he is.”
For now, it seems the mystery has been resolved—Dhankhar remains in the Vice President’s Enclave, away from the public eye.
