Important Notice: Update Your Aadhaar After 10 Years to Avoid Deactivation

Why Should You Update Your Aadhaar?

If your Aadhaar card has not been updated for the past 10 years, it is crucial to visit the nearest Aadhaar center and get it updated immediately. Failure to do so may result in your Aadhaar card being deactivated. In such cases, the cardholder may have to visit the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) headquarters in Delhi for resolution.

Aadhaar Verification Process by UIDAI

UIDAI conducts verification of Aadhaar cards every eight to ten years. If no updates are made during this period, the card may be marked as inactive or suspicious, potentially leading to its cancellation. To prevent this, UIDAI has implemented a system to identify active Aadhaar cards and ensure their authenticity.

Reactivating a Cancelled Aadhaar Card

If your Aadhaar card gets cancelled, you will be required to visit UIDAI’s headquarters in Delhi, where the issue will be addressed at the designated help desk. Please note that local Aadhaar centers are not authorized to reactivate cancelled Aadhaar cards.

Mandatory Upload of Photo ID Proof

According to Operation Manager Digvijay Chaudhary, most Aadhaar cardholders who haven’t changed their name or address are still required to update their identity details. To confirm that these cardholders are still active, UIDAI has made it compulsory to upload a photo ID proof every eight to ten years. Acceptable photo proofs include PAN card, voter ID, passport, and driving license.

Biometrics and Iris Update is Crucial

Digvijay Chaudhary also highlighted that biometric data, particularly fingerprints, tends to change slightly over time, especially in senior citizens. This often leads to verification issues in biometric systems, particularly for ration card verification and attendance systems. To avoid such problems, Aadhaar cardholders are advised to update their fingerprint biometrics, iris scan, and facial recognition data every ten years.
