In the latest episode of India’s most popular television show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, Bollywood’s ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan took the witness stand. Facing sharp questions from India TV Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma, the acclaimed actor shared deeply personal stories from his life and addressed several controversies head-on.
From his film journey to emotional topics close to his heart, Aamir touched on many aspects of his life. One significant part of the conversation revolved around his children — and particularly the criticism he has faced regarding their names.
Why Aamir Khan Often Faces Online Criticism
During the interview, Rajat Sharma pointed out that Aamir is frequently trolled for naming his children with Muslim names despite having married Hindu women. Aamir refuted these claims outright and offered a detailed explanation behind his children’s names, revealing interesting and little-known facts.
Who Named Aamir Khan’s Children?
When Sharma brought up how trolls argue that Aamir married women with names like Reena, Kiran, and now possibly Gauri — all names linked to Hindu goddesses — but named his children Junaid Khan, Ira Khan, and Azad Khan, Aamir responded with clarity.
“I want to make it very clear — it was my wives who chose the names of our children,” Aamir said. “I didn’t interfere in that decision. As husbands, you’d agree we often don’t get much say — the mothers decide. Reena picked the names Junaid and Ira.”
The Real Meaning Behind Ira and Azad’s Names
Aamir went on to explain the origins and meanings of the names. “Ira’s name is inspired by the goddess Saraswati. It is a shortened form of Iravati, a name from Hindu mythology. Reena actually found it in a book by Maneka Gandhi on Hindu names,” he said.
“As for Azad, Kiran chose that name in memory of Maulana Azad. Our family has historical ties with his lineage. Maulana Azad was a freedom fighter and a towering figure in India’s independence movement alongside Nehru, Gandhi, and Patel. And let me add — Azad is not a Muslim name. It was also the name of revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad,” Aamir clarified.
Aamir Addresses Other Major Topics
The actor didn’t shy away from speaking on weightier national and international matters either. He shared his thoughts on countries like Pakistan, China, Turkey, and also gave his opinion on topics such as Operation Sindoor. Beyond personal reflections, Aamir made it clear that he is not hesitant to express his views on issues of national importance.
