After Pahalgam Attack: Pakistan on Backfoot, Bilawal Bhutto Calls for Dialogue

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, the situation between India and Pakistan is becoming increasingly tense. Pakistan’s earlier aggression has now been replaced by panic as India’s swift actions have left it cornered. With the Modi government preparing for an even stronger response, Pakistan is feeling the pressure. In a surprising turn, Bilawal Bhutto, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) president who once made fiery threats against India, is now appealing for talks.

Bilawal Bhutto’s Change in Tone Within 24 Hours

In a recent interview with a Pakistani TV channel, Bilawal Bhutto expressed regret, reacting to India’s strong countermeasures. He stated, “The Pakistan government wishes to engage in dialogue, but India has rejected it.” This sudden call for peace highlights Pakistan’s double standards — first inciting violence and then pleading for negotiations under pressure. Clearly, these peace overtures seem more like a diplomatic show than genuine attempts at resolution.

Bilawal’s Earlier Threat After the Pahalgam Incident

Just a day before his peace talk plea, Bilawal Bhutto had issued an aggressive warning following India’s decision to cancel the Indus Water Treaty. Speaking at a public gathering in Sukkur, Sindh, he declared, “Indus is ours and will remain ours — either our water will flow or their blood.”
In response, India’s Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal strongly condemned Bhutto’s statement, labeling Pakistan a “hopeless nation” that prioritizes spreading terror over development.

India’s Decisive Response to the Pahalgam Attack

The Pahalgam attack tragically claimed 26 lives and injured over 20 people. In response, India convened an emergency meeting and announced five major decisions to counter Pakistan’s actions. The most significant among these was the cancellation of the Indus Water Treaty, putting Pakistan in a critical water crisis.
Additionally, India ordered all Pakistani nationals residing in India to leave within 48 hours and shut down the Attari border completely, halting all cross-border movement. These measures have visibly rattled Pakistan’s leadership.

Pakistan’s Symbolic Counter Moves

In retaliation, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced several symbolic steps, including closing Pakistani airspace to Indian aircraft. However, these moves are largely seen as ineffective and unlikely to create any real pressure on India. Pakistan’s responses appear more performative, lacking any serious strategic impact.
