Amrit Bharat 2.0 Introduces New Features but Lacks Three-Pin Sockets

The second version of the Amrit Bharat train, known as Amrit Bharat 2.0, is set to bring numerous new features. However, one notable drawback is the absence of three-pin sockets for charging mobile phones and laptops. Despite this, an alternative charging solution has been provided.

New Charging Arrangements in Amrit Bharat 2.0

A senior railway official confirmed that there will be no conventional electric sockets in the coaches of Amrit Bharat 2.0. Instead, passengers will be able to charge their mobile phones using USB sockets. Additionally, a C-type charging port has been introduced for convenience.

Previously, trains were equipped with three-pin plug sockets, allowing passengers to connect both two-pin and three-pin plugs. These sockets accommodated all types of mobile chargers. However, misuse became a common issue, with passengers using them for water heaters and room heaters, leading to fuse blowouts in the control panel and sometimes even causing serious accidents.

By replacing the three-pin sockets with USB and C-type charging points, the misuse of power outlets can be curbed. While mobile charging remains possible, there is one limitation—USB sockets will provide only 10 watts of power, resulting in slower charging speeds.

Challenges in Charging Laptops

Modern laptops now come with C-type charging ports, making them compatible with the new train setup. However, many laptops still use traditional charging pins, which may create inconvenience for users needing to charge their devices on board. Those with C-type charging ports will be able to charge their laptops, albeit at a slower pace.

Amrit Bharat: A Train for the Common Man

The Amrit Bharat train has been designed to cater to the needs of ordinary travelers. As a result, it consists solely of general and sleeper class coaches, with no air-conditioned compartments. The railway ministry aims to ensure that even the economically weaker sections of society have access to comfortable travel facilities. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav emphasized that the train’s design focuses on enhancing travel experiences for the common man, ensuring affordability and convenience.
