June 1, 2025 — COVID-19 is once again making headlines in India as the number of active cases rises. According to data released by the government as of 8 a.m. on May 31, the country currently has 3,395 active COVID-19 cases. In the last 24 hours alone, 685 new infections have been reported, while 1,435 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Alarmingly, four deaths linked to the virus were also recorded in the same period.
Amid this renewed concern, a decades-old prediction by Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga has resurfaced and gone viral. Known for her eerie forecasts, Vanga had reportedly predicted the arrival of a mysterious virus back in 2020, which many believe was a reference to the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Baba Vanga, who lost her eyesight as a child and later gained fame for her alleged prophetic abilities, claimed in her book The Future as I See It that a powerful, unknown virus would emerge in 2020 and peak by April of that year. What’s drawing renewed attention, however, is her warning that the virus would return after a decade—suggesting a resurgence around the year 2030.
Her prophecy has reignited fears, especially as the virus continues to evolve. Experts have noted that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, is capable of mutating over time. These mutations can potentially bypass existing treatments and preventive measures, making the virus more severe and harder to control.
However, scientists stress that advances in medical research and a deeper understanding of the virus have significantly improved the world’s ability to manage future outbreaks. Vaccination, antiviral drugs, and public health infrastructure are now more robust, providing hope that even if the virus resurfaces in the future, it can be contained more effectively.
Still, as the country battles a new wave of infections, Baba Vanga’s prediction has once again stirred public imagination—serving as both a warning and a reminder to stay vigilant.
