
Commissioner Secretary of Information Technology (IT), Saurabh Bhagat, recently chaired a crucial meeting focused on Aadhaar card-related initiatives. The meeting was attended by Finance Director of IT Department, Iftikhar Hussain Chauhan, Additional Secretary of ITD, Meenakshi Vaidya, Under Secretary of ITD, Malika Raina, State Project Manager of UIDAI for Jammu and Kashmir, Shoaib Khan, along with other officials.
Review of Aadhaar Enrollment and Updates
During the meeting, various aspects of Aadhaar card issuance and updates were discussed. Officials revealed plans to establish Aadhaar centers across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). A significant development is that Aadhaar cards for newborns will be generated at hospitals immediately upon verification of their birth certificates.
Awareness Campaign for Aadhaar Updates
UIDAI, in partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir administration, is actively running campaigns across all districts to educate Aadhaar holders about the importance of updating demographic details, biometrics, mobile numbers, and other necessary documents. The primary goal of these initiatives is to ensure accurate records of name, age, date of birth, and biometric information.
Mandatory Aadhaar Update for 10-Year-Old Cards
Authorities are urging Aadhaar holders whose cards were issued over 10 years ago to get them updated to avoid deactivation. Aadhaar updates can be completed either online or offline at the nearest Aadhaar center by submitting valid identity and address proofs.
Establishment of Over 1000 Aadhaar Centers
To expedite the Aadhaar enrollment and update process, UIDAI is collaborating with various departments, including the School Education Department, ICDS, Poshan Abhiyaan, Banks, and the Postal Department. More than 1,000 Aadhaar centers will be set up across the region to facilitate seamless updates and new registrations.
Appeal to Citizens and Officials
Commissioner Secretary Saurabh Bhagat has urged all residents to ensure their Aadhaar details are updated. Additionally, he has called upon parents to enroll their children for Aadhaar between the ages of 5 and 15. Furthermore, he has appealed to IT department officials and other concerned authorities to accelerate the Aadhaar update initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir by supporting UIDAI’s efforts.
