Ban on Fuel for 15-Year-Old Vehicles from April 1
The Delhi government has introduced a crucial measure to tackle vehicular pollution. On Saturday, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced that, effective April 1, vehicles older than 15 years will no longer be eligible to receive fuel at petrol pumps in the national capital.
Measures to Combat Pollution
During a high-level meeting with officials to address air pollution concerns in Delhi, Minister Sirsa emphasized the urgent need for strict measures to control vehicle emissions. The government is committed to reducing pollution levels through stringent policies, including restrictions on older vehicles, enforcing anti-smog measures, and promoting the transition to electric public transport.
Implementation and Coordination with Union Petroleum Ministry
Following the meeting, Sirsa stated that petrol pumps across Delhi will be equipped with advanced gadgets to detect vehicles older than 15 years. These vehicles will be denied fuel under the new directive. Additionally, the Delhi government will formally notify the Union Petroleum Ministry about this decision to ensure its smooth execution.

Anti-Smog Guns for Pollution Control
As part of the broader pollution control strategy, Sirsa also announced the mandatory installation of anti-smog guns in all high-rise buildings, hotels, and commercial establishments. This move aims to mitigate airborne pollutants and improve air quality across the city.
Phasing Out Public CNG Buses
In a significant shift towards sustainable public transport, the minister revealed that nearly 90 percent of Delhi’s public CNG buses will be phased out by December 2025. These buses will be replaced by electric buses, aligning with the government’s commitment to cleaner and greener transportation.
