The Maharashtra Transport Department has issued a notification that all vehicles that got registered till 1 April 2019 need to be installed with High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). The action has been taken to equip all old vehicles with HSRP by 31 March 2025 to make vehicles more secure and to reduce cases of vehicle thefts.
Online Application Process for HSRP
Applying for HSRP is a simple process. The vehicle owners can log in to various authorized providers’ websites, for example, bookmyhsrp.com, and input their vehicle details like vehicle registration number, chassis number, and engine number there.
HSRP Fee and Installation
HSRP costs around Rs 800-1500 (Rs 250-600/- for two-wheelers and Rs 800-1500/- for four-wheelers). After that, you can choose a date, time, and place of plate installation of your convenience. During installation, the vehicle owner has to replace his existing number plate with HSRP.
Challan for Failure to Install HSRP
If a vehicle is without an HSRP number plate, challan fees can be different in different states. In Maharashtra, it is mandatory to install HSRP up to March 31, 2025. In default of this, a challan of Rs 500 to Rs 5000 can be imposed.
