In the town of Loni, Ghaziabad, this year’s Bakri Eid was celebrated in a unique and commendable way. Instead of the traditional sacrificial goat offerings, the Muslim community marked the occasion with symbolic sacrifices in the form of cakes, making it an eco-friendly Eid. This initiative was carried out at the request of Loni MLA Nandkishore Gurjar, and it has received a great deal of praise from local residents as well as on social media.
A Shift in Tradition: Symbolic Sacrifice with Cake
In areas like Dabur Talab, Nasbandi Colony, and nearby neighborhoods in Loni, the Muslim community celebrated Eid-ul-Azha by replacing the customary animal sacrifice with cake-shaped goats. These cakes were cut and shared among each other as a way of extending Eid greetings. This initiative carried a message of religious harmony, environmental conservation, and social responsibility.
MLA Nandkishore Gurjar Praises the Initiative
Nandkishore Gurjar, the local MLA, expressed his happiness about this unique initiative, stating that the Muslims in Loni are nationalistic in their thinking and have shown that nothing is more important than the well-being of the nation. He described the move as “historic and inspiring” and expressed his hope that the Muslim community across the country would adopt this example and set a new precedent. He also mentioned that the Prime Minister of Morocco had implemented a ban on animal sacrifice this year for Bakri Eid, and the people of Loni have embraced the same spirit, which is highly commendable.
MLA Gurjar’s Bold Statement
Gurjar also made a bold claim, stating that Prophet Muhammad himself was a vegetarian and had warned about the spread of diseases through meat, while praising milk as a source of health. He said, “Those who insist on the necessity of animal sacrifice are neither following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad nor thinking about the welfare of society.” He further emphasized that this initiative, called “Eco-friendly Eid,” would not only help in environmental conservation but would also protect people from diseases like COVID-19 and other infections.
The Muslim Community’s Gratitude
On this occasion, many members of the Muslim community expressed their gratitude to MLA Nandkishore Gurjar, acknowledging his continuous efforts for the welfare of the region. They appreciated his call for symbolic sacrifices this year, which became a symbol of unity and brotherhood within the community.
