Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, countries like Turkey, China, and Azerbaijan had already made headlines for siding with Pakistan. However, a surprising new name has now emerged—Egypt. In an unexpected revelation, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif himself mentioned Egypt, thanking its president for support during the crisis.
Shehbaz Sharif Thanks Egyptian President Over the Phone
During a recent phone call, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The Pakistani leader appreciated Egypt’s balanced approach during the India-Pakistan tensions, crediting Cairo’s efforts with helping to ease the situation. This acknowledgment has made it evident that Egypt, although quietly, was backing Pakistan during the diplomatic standoff—joining the ranks of Turkey, China, and Azerbaijan.
Though Egypt did not make any official public statements, Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks have effectively confirmed its behind-the-scenes involvement.
Egyptian Cargo Plane Spotted in Pakistan Strengthens Claims
Signs of Egypt’s covert support were visible even earlier. On May 12, a post by Flight Radar 24 gained attention, claiming that an Egyptian cargo aircraft had landed in Pakistan. At the time, the incident went largely unnoticed. However, in light of Shehbaz Sharif’s comments, this event now appears to be part of Egypt’s quiet assistance to Pakistan.
Indus Waters Treaty Also Discussed in the Call
During the same phone call, PM Shehbaz Sharif also raised the issue of the Indus Waters Treaty, which India has recently put on hold. He emphasized the treaty’s importance for regional peace and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to it.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties: An Invitation Extended
The two leaders also discussed enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and Pakistan. As a gesture of goodwill, Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to President el-Sisi to visit Pakistan—an invitation that the Egyptian leader reportedly accepted.
