Folk Singer Neha Singh Rathore Faces Backlash for Criticizing Government, Responds Strongly to Online Trolls and MMS Controversy

New Delhi, April 22 – Folk singer Neha Singh Rathore has found herself at the center of a political and social media storm following a series of tweets in which she criticized the government after an attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Her posts raised serious questions about the administration’s response, drawing both support and sharp criticism. However, things escalated when a complaint was filed against her and a wave of online trolling followed.

Despite the backlash, Rathore has remained defiant, continuing to voice her criticism of the Modi government. Recently, matters took an even uglier turn when a screenshot allegedly linked to an MMS featuring her went viral on social media. The singer reacted strongly, calling the attack a targeted smear campaign.

In response, Rathore shared a video on her social media handles, accompanied by a powerful caption:
“Your abuses and FIRs cannot break my spirit… The people who are abusing me are the same type who once hurled mud at Savitribai Phule, poisoned Socrates, burned Bruno alive, gave poison to Mirabai Rathore, and forced Sita to undergo a trial by fire.”

“Character Assassination in the Name of Patriotism”: Neha in Her Video

In the video, Neha expressed outrage over the surge of posts on social media attacking her character. “There is a flood of posts trying to portray me as immoral. There’s an entire album of edited photos circulating, fake phone calls are being spread, and lies are being sold under the guise of patriotism,” she said.

She added that this orchestrated attack was designed to discredit her. “People are calling me names and thinking it makes them patriots. But if I didn’t understand this pattern, I might have been broken by now. Unfortunately for these fake patriots, I see through everything,” she said.

Neha accused the government of deflecting from real issues by using online abuse to silence dissent. “When the government has no answers to legitimate questions, they try to scare those who ask them—especially women—by attacking their character,” she said.

Neha Questions National Commission for Women’s Silence

Reacting to the viral MMS screenshot controversy, Rathore took to Twitter to question the inaction of the National Commission for Women (NCW).
“Has the National Commission for Women also died like an earthworm? Can’t they see what’s happening? For two months, I’ve been facing relentless harassment—first rumors, now screenshots from adult content are being shared with my name on them. Does the Commission only exist for kitty parties?” she wrote.

A Larger Debate on Women’s Voices and Dissent

Neha Singh Rathore’s case has ignited a larger debate on the silencing of dissenting female voices in India. While the authenticity of the viral content remains unverified, the singer’s defiant stand and pointed questions have resonated with many.

Her message is clear: she will not be silenced by online hate or institutional apathy.
