Fuel Prices Ahead of Eid: Petrol Hiked, LPG Cylinder Gets Cheaper

Just before Eid al-Adha, the Pakistani government has made changes to fuel and gas prices, offering a mix of relief and burden for citizens. The price of petrol has gone up, while consumers will benefit from a noticeable reduction in the cost of cooking gas.

According to an official government notification, the price of petrol has been increased by PKR 1 per liter. On the other hand, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have been slashed by PKR 4.62 per kilogram. The revised prices came into effect starting today.

Diesel Price Remains Unchanged

The rate of high-speed diesel has not been altered in this price update. With the new revision, consumers will now have to pay PKR 253.63 per liter for petrol, up from the previous PKR 252.63.

LPG Cylinder Now Cheaper by Over PKR 50

The cost of an 11.8 kg LPG cylinder has been reduced significantly. After a cut of PKR 4.62 per kg, the price of the cylinder has dropped to PKR 2,838.31, down from the earlier price of PKR 2,892.53. These new rates are applicable for the month of June, as mentioned in the official circular issued by the authorities.

Reason Behind the LPG Price Drop

In a separate press release, Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) explained the reason for the LPG price cut. The pricing of locally produced LPG is linked to Saudi Aramco’s Contract Price (CP) and the exchange rate of the US dollar. Compared to the previous month, the Saudi Aramco CP has decreased by 2.67%, while the average exchange rate of the dollar has seen a slight rise of 0.35%. Together, these factors have led to a reduction of PKR 54.6 in the consumer price of an 11.8 kg LPG cylinder.
