New Delhi | May 29, 2025 — On Thursday, May 29, gold prices saw a steep decline in the domestic market, marking one of the most significant drops in recent days. In contrast, silver prices witnessed a substantial increase, showing a divergent trend in the precious metals market.
Gold Price Today: A Major Drop
As of 10:04 AM on Thursday, the price of 24-carat gold fell sharply by ₹542 per 10 grams. At 10:05 AM, gold was trading at ₹95,100 per 10 grams on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Earlier in the session, it had dropped to an intraday low of ₹94,939 and touched a high of ₹95,010, reflecting volatility in the market.
This decline comes after a period of minor fluctuations in gold rates over the past few days, surprising investors who were expecting relatively stable prices.
Silver Price Today: Notable Surge
In contrast to gold, silver prices moved upward. At 10:09 AM, silver prices rose by ₹421 per kilogram. By 10:11 AM, silver was trading at ₹97,562 per kg on the MCX. During the session, silver hit an intraday low of ₹97,545 and climbed to a high of ₹97,720 per kg, showing strong buying interest in the metal.
Investing in Gold Digitally
With digital tools now widely accessible, purchasing gold is easier than ever. Investors no longer need large sums to start — digital gold options like Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) are available via most brokerage apps. These options offer returns comparable to physical gold but eliminate the need for storage and security concerns.
Which Carat Gold Is Best for Jewellery?
When it comes to jewellery, 22-carat gold is considered ideal. Composed of roughly 90% pure gold mixed with other metals, it offers durability without compromising much on purity. On the other hand, 24-carat gold is the purest form, making it more expensive and better suited for investment rather than crafting jewellery.
As markets respond to global economic cues and investor sentiment, price movements in gold and silver are expected to remain dynamic in the coming days. Investors are advised to monitor rates closely and consider diversification strategies for their portfolios.
