A new state-of-the-art highway is soon to be operational in Haryana, featuring a fully automated toll plaza. This innovative system will eliminate the need for human toll operators, allowing drivers to pass through without slowing down, as toll charges will be deducted seamlessly.
Automated Toll Plaza in Jhinjhauli
Following a successful trial run on the Sonipat Spur of Urban Extension Road-2, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalized the toll rates. The automatic toll plaza is situated in Jhinjhauli, covering a stretch of approximately 29 kilometers from Sonipat to Bawana. For this route, car drivers will be required to pay a toll fee of Rs 65.
How the Automatic Toll System Works
This advanced toll collection system is entirely sensor-based, automatically deducting toll fees from the vehicle’s Fastag as it passes through. To facilitate a smooth transition, a temporary cash lane will be available initially to assist drivers unfamiliar with the system and encourage the adoption of Fastag.
Faster Travel and Improved Connectivity
Once operational, the new highway will reduce the travel time between Sonipat and Bawana to just 20 minutes. Additionally, the 70-kilometer journey to IGI Airport will take under an hour. This development is expected to significantly ease congestion on the Delhi-Amritsar NH 44 and enhance connectivity between Punjab, Haryana, and outer Delhi.
Toll Collection to Begin Soon
NHAI officials have indicated that toll collection will commence by December. Engineers will be stationed in the control room to address any technical issues promptly, ensuring the smooth functioning of the automated toll plaza.
