The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a big step towards environmental conservation by banning the use of plastic (PET) water bottles up to 500 ml in meetings, conferences, and events organized by all government departments, boards, corporations, and institutions.

Under the new rule, the use of eco-friendly alternatives will be encouraged in place of plastic bottles:
- Glass bottles
- Steel containers
- Water dispensers
Not only government institutions but also private hotels and Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation hotels will have to follow these new guidelines.
Strict Instructions and Heavy Penalties
According to DC Rana, Director of the Department of Environment, Science and Technology, the state has already banned several non-biodegradable items.
Along with this, the government has mandated the installation of ‘car bins’ in vehicles to collect and properly dispose of vehicle waste.
Violators of these rules will face strict penalties, ensuring serious enforcement of this initiative.

To make this initiative successful, government agencies will launch awareness campaigns explaining the importance of avoiding small plastic bottles.
Additionally, authorities have been given powers to impose fines on those who ignore the ban.
