How to Keep Water Cool in the Tank During Summer

Preventing Overheating of Water in Rooftop Tanks

During the summer season, water stored in rooftop tanks tends to become extremely hot due to continuous exposure to sunlight. However, there are simple and effective home remedies to maintain cool water in the tank without requiring expensive solutions.

Using Sackcloth to Keep the Water Cool

One of the easiest ways to keep the water cool is by covering the tank with a wet sackcloth. The moisture in the sackcloth helps absorb heat and reduces the temperature of the tank, keeping the water inside cooler for longer durations.

Painting the Tank White

A cost-effective and efficient method to keep the tank cool is by painting its exterior with white paint. Since white color reflects sunlight, it prevents heat absorption, ensuring that the water inside remains comparatively cooler than an unpainted tank.

Keeping the Tank Lid Closed

During summer nights, the air remains warm, which can further heat the water if the tank lid is left open. To retain the coolness of the water, always ensure that the lid is properly closed to prevent warm air from entering.

Placing the Tank in a Shaded Area

If possible, installing the tank in a shaded location can significantly help in reducing heat absorption. Instead of placing it in an open area, positioning it under a shed, umbrella, or artificial covering can prevent direct sunlight from heating the tank. This simple adjustment can maintain the water temperature at a more comfortable level throughout the summer.
