The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan are now spilling over into both countries’ entertainment industries. On one hand, actors from both nations have shared their opinions on the issue, while on the other hand, some have found themselves caught up in social media wars. One such incident involved a conflict between Sanam Teri Kasam actors Harshvardhan Rane and his Pakistani co-star Mawra Hocane. The drama started when Mawra tweeted about Operation Sindoor, labeling it a cowardly act by India. In response, Harshvardhan Rane didn’t hold back and criticized her openly. As the conflict escalated, Mawra was removed from the film’s cover poster on Spotify, sparking various reactions online.
Amid the growing tension, actress Twinkle Khanna also weighed in on the situation. She made a sarcastic comment about the removal of Pakistani actors’ photos from movie and music posters. Her remark, delivered in a witty tone, suggested that if the goal was to boycott Pakistani actors, then India should re-record songs sung by Pakistani singers with Dhinchak Pooja.
In her recent column for Times of India, Twinkle wrote:
“Recently, when Sanam Teri Kasam was re-released, I couldn’t help but listen to its songs over and over. But when I checked Spotify, I noticed that actress Mawra Hocane had been removed from the album cover. Upon further research, I discovered that Pakistani actors like Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan had also been removed from various movie and music posters!”
Commenting on this move, Twinkle sarcastically added:
“As a responsible citizen, I didn’t want to stay behind. So, my suggestion is that all songs by Abida Parveen and Farida Khanum should be re-recorded by our very own Dhinchak Pooja. This way, Pakistanis will truly learn a lesson!”
Twinkle’s statement comes at a time when Pakistani actors have been completely banned in India. This decision follows the tragic events of April 22, when Pakistani terrorists killed 26 Indian civilians in Pahalgam. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting and destroying several terrorist bases within Pakistani territory. Pakistani actors were quick to criticize India’s actions, and in response, the Indian government not only blocked their social media accounts but also prohibited their films, TV shows, interviews, and songs from airing in India. In retaliation, Pakistan decided to impose a complete ban on the songs of Indian legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, and Kishore Kumar on their FM radio stations.
