Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, India has launched a retaliatory strike, targeting multiple terrorist camps in Pakistan with precision missile attacks. Reports indicate that several militants have been killed, and significant infrastructure has been destroyed. Even Pakistan has acknowledged the damage, causing a wave of panic across the country.
While the missile strikes directly hit targets in Pakistan, the ripple effects are being felt in neighboring Bangladesh as well, especially concerning the safety of their athletes currently in Pakistan.
PSL Continues Amid Tensions
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is currently underway in Pakistan, with several matches still to be played. Despite the escalating situation, organizers have stated that the tournament will proceed as scheduled. However, the missile strikes have sparked concerns in Bangladesh, particularly over the safety of their cricket players participating in the PSL.
Bangladeshi Players Active in PSL
Bangladeshi cricketers Rishad Hossain, a leg-spinner for Lahore Qalandars, and Nahid Rana, a fast bowler for Peshawar Zalmi, are both currently in Pakistan. According to reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reached out to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to seek assurances regarding the security of their players.
In an official statement, the BCB said it is coordinating with both the PCB and the Bangladeshi High Commission in Islamabad to ensure that adequate safety measures are being implemented.
Upcoming Bangladesh Tour at Risk
Adding to the concern, Bangladesh’s national cricket team is scheduled to tour Pakistan for a five-match T20 series starting from May 25. Given the current situation, there are growing doubts over whether the tour will proceed as planned.
While only two Bangladeshi players are presently in Pakistan, the upcoming series would require the entire national squad to travel, raising further security concerns.
BCB to Wait and Watch Before Making a Final Call
BCB President Faruque Ahmed, in a statement to Cricbuzz, confirmed that no final decision has been made yet. “We’re monitoring the situation closely. The next four to five days will be critical,” he said. “Right now, our primary concern is for Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain, who are already in Pakistan.”
The BCB has indicated that it will take a final call on the tour only after observing how the situation in Pakistan evolves over the coming days.
