Jhansi Loan Dispute Sparks Outrage: Woman Allegedly Held Hostage by Private Bank Over EMI
Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh — July 2025 A shocking incident has emerged from the Moth police station area in Jhansi, where a woman was allegedly held inside a private bank for hours after her husband failed to pay a loan installment. The matter came to light when the husband dialed emergency number 112, prompting police intervention and the woman’s release.
🏦 What Happened?
According to reports, Ravindra Verma, a resident of Babai Road, had taken a ₹40,000 personal loan with a monthly EMI of ₹2,120. He claims to have paid 11 installments, but the bank records show only 8. Ravindra alleges that bank agents Kaushal and Dharmendra misappropriated three EMIs, totaling ₹6,360.
On Monday, July 28, Ravindra and his wife Pooja Verma were allegedly taken to the bank’s branch in Azad Nagar, Bamhrauli. There, Pooja was reportedly detained for nearly five hours, with staff refusing to let her leave until the dues were paid.
“They said, ‘Pay first, then take your wife home,’” Ravindra told police.
📄 Complaint and Bank’s Response
Pooja Verma filed a formal complaint at Kotwali Moth police station, stating she was forcibly held and that her payments were not properly recorded. She accused the agents of fraud and coercion.
However, Bank Manager Anuj Kumar denied the allegations, claiming Pooja had not paid any EMIs for seven months and had come to the bank voluntarily with her husband.
👮 Police Action and Investigation
Police responded swiftly and freed the woman. A formal investigation is underway, including review of CCTV footage and verification of payment records. Authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken if misconduct is confirmed.
