Meerut Woman Leaves Husband Over Beard Dispute, Returns After Two Months, Receives Triple Talaq at Police Station

A bizarre case has emerged from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman allegedly left her husband because she disliked his beard. The incident took a dramatic turn when she returned after two months with her brother-in-law, prompting her husband—a Maulana (Islamic scholar)—to pronounce triple talaq in front of a police station.

According to reports, the woman had been married for seven months to a Maulana residing in Ujjawal Garden under the Lisadi Gate area. From the beginning, she had objections to her husband’s beard, asking him repeatedly to shave it off. She reportedly told him that it made her uncomfortable and that she found facial hair unattractive.

When the husband refused, citing religious reasons and personal beliefs, the situation escalated. The woman claimed that the marriage had been forced upon her and, shortly after, eloped with her brother-in-law. The Maulana then filed a missing person report for both his wife and his brother.

The police traced the couple to Ludhiana, Punjab, and eventually persuaded them to return to Meerut. On Wednesday evening, the woman returned home accompanied by her brother-in-law, leading to a heated altercation between the two families. Police intervened and brought all parties to the local station.

At the station, the Maulana initially offered reconciliation, asking his wife to apologize so that they could start afresh. However, she declined and instead demanded a financial settlement of ₹2.5 lakh. When no agreement was reached, the Maulana proceeded to pronounce triple talaq at the police station entrance.

In front of police personnel, the woman made serious allegations against her husband, accusing him of physical abuse, blackmail using inappropriate videos, and impotence. She denied that her departure was related to his beard, claiming instead that she had long-standing issues with his behavior and had even informed her family prior to leaving.

Later, both sides agreed to a compromise, according to police officials. Authorities confirmed that the woman had willingly left with her brother-in-law and that both families have now settled the matter. However, police stated that they remain open to investigating further if any formal complaint is filed.
