In a controversial incident in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim farmer has landed in legal trouble after a video surfaced showing him offering Eid (Bakrid) prayers inside a power station. The video quickly went viral on social media, prompting swift action from the local police.
Eid Prayers at a Power Station Spark Legal Action
The incident occurred in the Simbhaoli area of Hapur district, where members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) were holding a sit-in protest. Their demands included timely repair of electric poles and regular electricity supply for agricultural use.
During the protest, one of the Muslim leaders from the BKU offered Bakrid prayers within the premises of the electricity department’s office. An onlooker captured the moment on video, which soon went viral online, triggering public debate and official intervention.
FIR Registered After Video Goes Viral
Following the online uproar, the police registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by Assistant Engineer Rambali Maurya. The complaint alleges that unauthorized assembly and religious activity took place at a government facility.
The FIR names BKU district president Dinesh Kheda, along with members Kunwar Khushnud, Manawwar Ali, Naushad, Faizan Abbasi, and others under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS):
- Section 191(2): Unlawful gathering
- Section 121(1): Obstruction of government duty
- Sections 351(2) & 351(3): Related to disruption and misconduct
Power Theft Allegation and Pressure to Withdraw Case
Additionally, the complaint mentions a power theft incident in Ratupura village, which the electricity department claims to have identified and documented. However, the FIR also accuses BKU leaders of pressuring authorities to withdraw the theft case, further complicating the legal situation.
Public Reaction and Political Sensitivity
The incident has sparked debate on social media and raised questions about freedom of religious practice, use of public spaces, and political motivations behind the FIR. As of now, no arrests have been made, but police investigations are ongoing, and legal action is expected.
