New rules for balance check limit, autopay time slot and credit card payment apply

If you use UPI (Unified Payments Interface) daily, then from August 1, there is going to be a big change in your digital payment habits. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has decided to implement several new rules to make UPI faster, safer and more reliable. These changes will directly affect the pockets and experience of common consumers.

Balance check limit

Now you will be able to check the balance only 50 times a day on the UPI app. This may cause trouble for those users who have a habit of checking the balance frequently. NPCI believes that checking the balance repeatedly increases the pressure on the server, which slows down the transactions.

Changes in autopayment

The process of UPI-related autopayments such as Netflix subscription, SIP investment, and insurance premium will now be completed only in the scheduled time slots. These slots have been set before 10 am, from 1 pm to 5 pm, and after 9:30 pm. This step has been taken so that there is less pressure on the server during peak hours of the day and all transactions can be processed smoothly without any interruption. This will increase the chances of users getting a better and faster service experience.

How to make UPI payment from credit card?

Now you can also make UPI payment with your RuPay credit card. For this you have to follow the steps given below:

Scan QR code from UPI app

Select ‘Pay Phone Number’ or ‘Pay Contact’ option

Enter UPI ID or other payment option

You can also choose ‘Self Transfer’ option

Verify QR code and number

Enter the amount and select credit card as payment mode

Enter PIN and complete the payment

Conclusion

The new rules of UPI aim to make the system fast, secure and stable. According to NPCI, complaints of transaction delays and outages had increased in April–May 2025, the main reason for which was frequent balance checks and transaction status refreshes. These changes will improve the UPI experience and reduce unnecessary pressure on the server.
