
A new and alarming threat has emerged to join the list of natural disasters that could potentially strike Earth. This danger, however, is not coming from the surface but directly from space. Scientists have issued a warning that several massive asteroids, hidden between the Sun and Venus, could potentially enter Earth’s orbit and, if they collide with our planet, cause destruction on a catastrophic scale.
These asteroids are so hazardous that a direct impact would have consequences akin to a nuclear attack. The most concerning aspect is that tracking them has become increasingly difficult. Due to the intense sunlight and the position of Venus, these asteroids are evading detection by scientific telescopes.
The “Silent Killers” with Unpredictable Paths
Orbiting close to Venus, these asteroids can suddenly alter their trajectory due to the gravitational forces in that region. The constant shifting of their paths could eventually lead them into Earth’s orbit, bringing them dangerously close to our planet and increasing the risk of destruction.
Earth’s Telescopes Can’t Keep Up
According to astronomers in Brazil, the telescopes currently available on Earth are struggling to accurately locate and track these asteroids. The intense sunlight around Venus creates a sort of “blind zone,” where observations or scans are nearly impossible, making it incredibly challenging to detect these space objects in time.
Identified Asteroids, Yet the Danger Remains
So far, scientists have identified several asteroids that could pose a threat, including 2020 SB, 524522, and 2020 C1. These asteroids range from 100 meters to 400 meters in diameter. If one were to collide with a densely populated city, millions of lives could be at risk.
Call for Specialized Space Missions
Experts are now urging for the initiation of specialized space missions to monitor the area near Venus. These missions could help to thoroughly investigate the “blind zone” and allow for early detection of any asteroids, providing ample time to prepare and possibly prevent a catastrophic impact.
As the threat from space continues to grow, scientists emphasize the importance of developing more advanced tools and missions to safeguard Earth from potential destruction.
