In an effort to expose Pakistan’s role in cross-border terrorism, the Modi government has decided to send a multi-party delegation on a foreign tour as part of Operation Sindoor. The team will be tasked with shedding light on Pakistan’s involvement in supporting terrorism and clarifying the truth behind the operation. The leaders of the delegation have already been announced, but there has been a notable absence from West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has stated she will not be part of the mission.
While the Modi government had included Trinamool Congress MP and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan in the delegation, the party has now reversed its decision and opted not to send him on the trip.
Mamata Refuses to Support the Government’s Mission
The Trinamool Congress has communicated to the Modi government that neither Yusuf Pathan nor any other MP from their party will be a part of the multi-party delegation set to tour various countries for this counter-terrorism campaign. The party’s decision comes after the government included Pathan without consulting the party leadership.
The Break in Alliance
Sources indicate that Mamata Banerjee’s party disagreed with the government’s unilateral selection of MPs for the mission without prior consultation. After the issue surrounding Pathan, TMC made it clear that they would not participate in the campaign, especially after the consultation with their leadership was bypassed. Mamata Banerjee’s party made it clear that neither Yusuf Pathan nor any other TMC leader would be involved in the mission.
Leadership Changes and TMC’s Withdrawal
After TMC leader Sudeep Bandopadhyay, citing health issues, expressed his inability to join the mission, the government chose to include Murshidabad MP in the delegation instead. However, TMC stated that they were not consulted in the process and thus, have distanced themselves from the tour.
Pathan Was to Join the Delegation Led by Sanjay Jha
Yusuf Pathan was initially included in the delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha, which was supposed to visit countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore. The nine-member team, which also included prominent leaders like Salman Khurshid, John Brittas, and Brijlal, was scheduled to leave for Japan on May 21. However, with TMC’s withdrawal, Pathan’s participation in the trip remains uncertain.
