More than a week after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, new information continues to emerge from tourists who were present at the time. A recent account by a tourist from West Bengal sheds light on a suspicious encounter that occurred just hours before the incident.
A group of 10–12 tourists from West Bengal arrived in Kashmir on 21 April 2024. The following day, they visited Baisaran, a well-known tourist destination in the Pahalgam area. During their visit, a dispute over extended horse ride charges prompted the group to prepare for an early return.
As they were about to leave the area, they were reportedly approached by four to five unidentified individuals who tried to prevent their departure. These individuals insisted that the group should remain longer, suggesting they still had more to explore and even offered food such as Maggi and momos. When the tourists refused, citing a member’s injury and soiled clothes, the men continued to urge them to stay, attempting to block their path.
The group eventually managed to leave after forcefully asserting their intent. While descending from Baisaran, they heard what initially seemed like unusual noise, which they later identified as gunfire. As panic spread among nearby tourists and locals, the group realized that a terrorist attack had occurred in the vicinity. On their way to the taxi stand, they witnessed CRPF personnel and ambulances responding to the scene.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the presence of suspicious individuals near tourist areas and the need for increased security. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack.
