Pakistan was eliminated in the group stage of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but will still get crores of rupees

Pakistan’s journey in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has come to an early end as they failed to progress beyond the group stage. The team was placed in Group A alongside India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh but could not secure a single victory.

Disappointing Performance in the Group Stage

Pakistan, the host nation, faced a challenging start to the tournament. In their opening match, they suffered a 60-run defeat against New Zealand. This was followed by a six-wicket loss to arch-rivals India. The team’s last group-stage match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain, denying them a chance to register even a single win.

Pakistan’s Standings and Tournament Exit

Under the leadership of captain Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan finished at the bottom of Group A. They managed to accumulate only one point from their three matches, with a net run rate of -1.087. Despite hosting the tournament, Pakistan’s early exit was a major disappointment for their fans.

Financial Rewards Despite Early Exit

Although Pakistan’s performance in the tournament was underwhelming, they are still set to receive a significant financial reward from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

How Much Will Pakistan Earn?

The total prize pool for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 stands at $6.9 million, marking a 53% increase from the 2017 edition. The winning team will take home $2.24 million, while the runner-up will receive $1.12 million. The semifinalists who fail to progress to the final will be awarded $560,000 each.

Teams finishing in the seventh and eighth positions are entitled to a prize of $140,000. Additionally, ICC has allocated $125,000 to each of the eight participating teams as a guaranteed participation fee.

Pakistan is expected to finish in either seventh or eighth place, which means they will receive $140,000 (approximately 2.37 crore Pakistani Rupees). Moreover, ICC had announced an extra $34,000 for every match won in the tournament. However, since Pakistan failed to win a single game, they missed out on this bonus.

Compensation for Rain-Affected Match

The washed-out game against Bangladesh resulted in a shared reward. The $34,000 allocated for a match victory was split equally between the two teams, granting Pakistan an additional $17,000 (approximately 15 lakh Pakistani Rupees).

Hosting Revenue for Pakistan

Beyond the prize money, Pakistan is also set to earn revenue for hosting the tournament. While their on-field performance may have been disappointing, their financial earnings from the ICC will still provide some consolation.
