Pakistan, which has been actively involved in spreading terrorism in India, is currently grappling with its own internal issues. Recently, the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, revealed links to Pakistan. However, Pakistan itself is facing severe internal turmoil. The people of Sindh are protesting over water distribution, with local residents blocking highways in desperation. Additionally, an attack occurred in Balochistan, particularly in Kalat, where armed militants disrupted the Quetta-Karachi Highway.
Violence in Balochistan and the Growing Tensions
The militants not only blocked the highway but also caused damage to the vehicles passing through, targeting those on the road. The incident took place in the Monguchar area of Kalat district. Several government buildings were set on fire during the attack, including the National Bank of Pakistan office, the local court, and several departmental offices. Witnesses reported that the fire caused extensive damage to the structures. There are unconfirmed reports of an attack on a nearby Pakistani Army camp, although this information has not been verified.
Disruptions on the National Highway and Targeted Attacks
According to Pakistani news sources, the militants stopped vehicles on the national highway and interrogated the passengers. They specifically targeted buses and cars, questioning the travelers. This interruption caused significant disruption to traffic along the highway, which connects Karachi to Quetta. It is believed that the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) was behind the attack, and they aimed to target individuals of Punjabi origin. The militants were trying to identify passengers and would have posed a danger to those of Punjabi descent. Such targeted killings of Pakistani Punjabi civilians by BLA members have become a disturbing trend in the region.
Ongoing Attacks and Escalating Tensions
Sources indicate that the armed group held control over several buildings for a significant period of time. However, as soon as security forces arrived at the scene, the attackers retreated. No arrests were made by the Pakistani security forces. After prolonged efforts, the highway was finally cleared for use. In another incident, on Friday night, armed motorcycle riders attacked a checkpoint, killing toll collector Hak Nawaz Langove. Additionally, a bridge on the road was blown up, although fortunately, no one was injured in this incident.
These events underline the growing instability within Pakistan, where both domestic issues and militant activity continue to create chaos and unrest. The situation is further exacerbated by the ongoing targeting of civilians and infrastructure, intensifying the internal conflict.
