In India, a pack of Parle-G costs just ₹5. But in stark contrast, in war-ravaged Gaza, the same humble biscuit is now selling for a staggering ₹2,300 (24 euros), making it a luxury item amidst a humanitarian crisis.
Viral Video from Gaza Highlights Dire Situation
A video shared by a Palestinian man, Mohammad Jawad, has gone viral on social media. In the clip, his daughter Rafif is seen holding a pack of Parle-G with a smile on her face. Jawad reveals that he paid 24 euros for that single packet — a price nearly 500 times its cost in India.
While Parle-G typically retails for ₹5 in India and around ₹100 internationally, scarcity has turned it into a prized commodity in Gaza. According to Jawad, other essentials are also being sold at outrageous prices — flour at $500 per sack and sugar at $90 per kilogram.
This video has drawn strong reactions online. One social media user claimed that Parle-G biscuits sent as humanitarian aid from India were seized by Hamas and are now being resold at extortionate prices. While this claim is unverified, it sheds light on the worsening conditions in the region.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza
The situation in Gaza has deteriorated to alarming levels. The United Nations has already issued warnings about the risk of famine. The chaos escalated further after a recent attack on a relief distribution center, where Israeli forces allegedly opened fire on civilians waiting for aid. At least 27 people were killed, according to Palestinian health officials and eyewitnesses.
This was the third such incident within just three days. The Israeli military claims the shooting targeted individuals considered suspicious, who allegedly ignored warning shots.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, backed by the US and Israel, has also reported daily attacks on aid convoys and distribution points, making it nearly impossible to deliver relief to civilians caught in the crossfire.
