Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply. The atmosphere between the two nations now resembles a war-like situation. While India is preparing to respond strongly to the attack, Pakistan appears increasingly nervous and isolated on the global stage. As in previous conflicts, Pakistan once again finds itself at a disadvantage, while countries worldwide are rallying behind India. In the midst of this tension, China has stepped in to support Pakistan militarily by supplying it with advanced missiles. What India’s next move will be remains to be seen, but Pakistan’s growing desperation is clearly visible.
China Steps in to Arm Pakistan
Amid the rising hostility between India and Pakistan, China has openly extended military support to Pakistan. It has provided more than 100 PL-15 Long Range Air-to-Air Missiles (VLRAAM) to its neighbor. This support comes at a critical time when any minor spark could potentially ignite a full-scale war.
Reports suggest that the PL-15 missile has an impressive maximum range of about 200 kilometers, significantly longer than the PL-12 missiles currently used with Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder Block-3 jets, which have a range of around 100 kilometers. With this new arsenal, Pakistan aims to strengthen its air combat capabilities, but the move has raised alarms in India.
High-Level Meeting Between Chinese Ambassador and Pakistan’s Deputy PM
In the backdrop of these developments, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar recently met with the Chinese Ambassador. The meeting, confirmed by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry on social media platform X, emphasized the “all-weather strategic partnership” between China and Pakistan. Both sides also discussed various regional and global developments, hinting at a growing alignment amid escalating regional instability.
China’s Role: A Strategic Advantage for Pakistan?
China’s support could act as a game-changer for Pakistan in its conflict with India. While major global powers seem to back India’s stand, China’s military and diplomatic backing offers Pakistan a much-needed lifeline.
China’s influence on the United Nations Security Council, especially its veto power, could further complicate India’s diplomatic moves. With China supplying advanced weapons and providing political cover internationally, India’s challenges on both military and diplomatic fronts could increase if tensions continue to rise.
