On Thursday evening, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir took an unexpected turn as lightning struck the sacred Trikuta mountain in Katra. Devotees visiting the holy shrine of Maa Vaishno Devi were recording videos of the scenic mountain when a sudden clap of thunder echoed through the valley — and a bolt of lightning illuminated the sky. The rare and powerful moment, now viral, was not just caught on camera but also left a lasting impression on the hearts of those present. Overcome with devotion, pilgrims began chanting praises of the goddess in unison.
Weather to Remain Unstable in J&K
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience turbulent weather from May 2 to May 4. The forecast includes rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Some regions might even witness heavy rainfall and hailstorms, urging residents and travelers to remain cautious.
Heavy Rains Transform Delhi-NCR Weather
Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR woke up to a downpour on Friday, dramatically altering the weather. Showers began around 5 AM and continued steadily for several hours. Not just Delhi, but parts of Haryana and Punjab also saw significant rainfall, leading to waterlogging in several locations and a noticeable drop in temperature — providing much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat.
Three-Day Rain Alert Issued
The Meteorological Department has issued a three-day rain alert for the national capital. Winds reaching speeds of up to 70 km/h are also expected. The rainfall is attributed to a western disturbance affecting northern India. While the showers have disrupted normal life in some areas, they’ve also brought a pleasant break from the intense heat.
