Tensions Escalate After Pahalgam Attack: Calls Grow to Reclaim PoK

Anger in India and Pakistan Over Pahalgam Attack

The recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has sparked outrage not only in India but also across Pakistan. Citizens from both countries are now demanding that India take firm action by reclaiming Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and dismantling the terrorism networks thriving there. Responding to the growing tension, India has taken a bold step by suspending the Indus Water Treaty, a move that has left Pakistan’s leadership fuming.

Pakistan’s Senate Rejects Indian Allegations, Faces Public Backlash

As diplomatic tensions rise, Pakistan’s upper house, the Senate, passed a resolution on Friday rejecting India’s accusations. However, this move has done little to calm the public anger within Pakistan itself. Many Pakistanis are now openly criticizing the Shahbaz Sharif government for failing to control the situation and for fostering an environment that enables terrorism.

Activist Amjad Ayub Mirza Exposes the Truth Behind the Attack

Amjad Ayub Mirza, a prominent political activist from PoK, made a strong statement regarding the recent attack. He pointed out that by targeting tourists, Pakistani-backed terrorists aimed to damage Kashmir’s growing economy. According to Mirza, the Pakistani establishment is envious of the peace and development taking place in Indian-administered Kashmir, where roads, bridges, and infrastructure are booming, strengthening the local economy.

In contrast, PoK continues to struggle with severe poverty, unpaid salaries for months, and widespread dissatisfaction among its residents. Mirza emphasized that the worsening economic conditions in PoK have left people desperate, to the point of threatening mass suicides. He argued that Pakistan orchestrated the attack to destabilize the progress being made on the Indian side of Kashmir.

Calls for India to Reclaim PoK and PoJK

Amjad Ayub Mirza did not mince his words when he stated that the only permanent solution to the Kashmir issue is for India to take full control of both PoK and PoJK. He stressed that Pakistan’s rulers are intentionally trying to halt the economic growth in Kashmir through acts of terrorism and that reclaiming these territories is crucial for lasting peace and stability.

Pakistan’s Suspension of Shimla Agreement Backfires

Mirza also criticized Pakistan’s decision to suspend the Shimla Agreement in retaliation against India’s actions. He explained that by abandoning the Shimla Agreement, Pakistan has effectively nullified the recognition of the Line of Control (LoC) and reverted to the earlier ceasefire line. This move, he warned, opens the door for India to assert its claim over PoK more aggressively.

The Shimla Agreement, signed after the 1971 war, had formalized the ceasefire line into the LoC, and as part of the agreement, India had also released over 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war and returned occupied territories. Mirza argued that by withdrawing from this historic pact, Pakistan now risks India reclaiming the territories it once returned — a strategic blunder with serious long-term consequences.
