The Issue of Slow Internet Speed in Pakistan and the Future of Satellite Internet, Monthly Charges of 50,000 PKR…

The problem of slow internet speed in Pakistan has persisted for years. While some claim that internet restrictions and censorship are to blame, the government attributes the issue to the damage of submarine cables. In an effort to resolve this, the government is now considering the introduction of satellite internet services. There is growing speculation that satellite internet might soon receive official approval in Pakistan.

Satellite Internet: A Costly Solution?

High Monthly Charges of 50,000 PKR

One of the biggest concerns surrounding the approval of satellite internet is its affordability for the average Pakistani citizen. The introduction of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service in Pakistan has raised questions due to its high pricing. Reports suggest that the basic satellite internet package will cost around 50,000 PKR per month, offering speeds between 50-250 Mbps. In addition to this, customers will need to pay a one-time hardware fee of 120,000 PKR, an amount comparable to purchasing a premium smartphone.

Business Plan Priced at 95,000 PKR

For residential users, a relatively more affordable package is available at 35,000 PKR per month. However, this plan requires a hardware investment of approximately 110,000 PKR. On the other hand, businesses looking for higher-speed connectivity can opt for the premium package, which costs 95,000 PKR per month. This plan offers internet speeds ranging from 100-500 Mbps, but requires an upfront hardware investment of 220,000 PKR.

Conclusion

While satellite internet could offer a viable solution to Pakistan’s long-standing internet speed issues, its high cost may restrict accessibility for the majority of the population. The government’s efforts to bring this technology into the country are commendable, but affordability remains a key concern. Whether or not the average citizen will be able to benefit from this innovation remains to be seen.
