Indian cricket’s mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, continues to showcase his talent in the ongoing T20 International series against England. After his remarkable performances in the first two matches, where he bagged five wickets, Chakravarthy repeated the feat in the third match as well. However, despite his incredible bowling display, which earned him the Player of the Match award, India faced defeat in Rajkot, and an unfortunate world record was set in his name.

Varun Chakravarthy Makes History with Two Five-Wicket Hauls in Losing Causes

Varun Chakravarthy has now become the first bowler in T20 International cricket history to take two five-wicket hauls in matches where his team ended up losing. His first such instance came in November last year against South Africa in Gqeberha, where he claimed 5 wickets for just 17 runs, but India lost that match as well. This time, in the third T20 against England, Chakravarthy took 5 wickets for 24 runs, but India still fell short, leading to another tough loss.

The Rise of Varun Chakravarthy: From Debut to Dominance

Varun Chakravarthy made his T20I debut for India in July 2021, but his journey started slowly with only 2 wickets from his first 6 appearances. After a nearly three-year hiatus, Chakravarthy made a strong comeback and has been in excellent form since his return. In the last 10 matches, he has claimed 27 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. Additionally, he has taken 3 wickets in an innings on three occasions and has earned 2 wickets in four other innings.

Though the results haven’t always been in favor of Team India, Varun Chakravarthy’s consistency and remarkable bowling skills have made him one of the standout bowlers in the current T20I series. As he continues to grow as a cricketer, it’s clear that his contributions will be vital for India in the upcoming T20 tournaments.
