In Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa, a shocking incident unfolded when a young couple seeking to register their love marriage was brutally assaulted by a group of lawyers. The girl, belonging to a Hindu family, and the boy, from a Muslim background, faced accusations of ‘love jihad’ from the lawyers, who then attacked them. Upon receiving reports of the incident, the police promptly arrived at the scene and rescued the couple from the clutches of the enraged legal practitioners. The duo was then taken to the police station for further questioning.
Couple Attacked Over Interfaith Relationship
As per sources, the couple had secretly approached the court to formalize their marriage, avoiding opposition from their families. While consulting a lawyer for the necessary legal procedures, they disclosed their religious identities, which led to immediate hostility. The lawyers, upon realizing their differing faiths, accused them of engaging in ‘love jihad’ and resorted to violence. The police, upon learning about the altercation, rushed to the location and, after considerable effort, managed to extract the boy from the assailants, escorting him safely to the police station. The entire matter is currently under investigation.
Lawyers Take Law into Their Own Hands
The violent episode took place under the jurisdiction of the Rewa Civil Lines police station. On Friday, the interfaith couple arrived at the district court with hopes of completing their marriage formalities discreetly. However, as soon as their religious backgrounds came to light, a group of lawyers intervened aggressively. They detained the couple and subjected them to physical assault. The police had to step in swiftly to rescue them from further harm. Unfortunately, the incident forced the couple to abandon their marriage plans for the time being to ensure their safety.
Boy Suffers Injuries Due to Assault
Reports suggest that the girl had discreetly left her home to avoid family interference and had come to the court with the boy to finalize marriage-related paperwork. Upon learning of their different faiths, the lawyers strongly opposed their union and initiated violence. Chaos erupted in the court premises as multiple lawyers grabbed hold of the couple and assaulted them. The boy sustained severe injuries, including bleeding wounds due to the intensity of the attack.
Thankfully, police intervention came in time to prevent further escalation. Upon reaching the scene, the officers struggled to free the boy from the mob before managing to take him to the police station on a scooter. Civil Lines Police Station in-charge Kamlesh Sahu confirmed that the police are actively investigating the matter. He stated that both individuals are legally adults and are currently being questioned at the station to determine the next course of action.
