10 years imprisonment and ₹2.51 lakh fine for filing fake SC-ST Act case

Lucknow: Advocate Laavan Singh, who misused the SC-ST Act in a land dispute, has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹2.51 lakh by a special court in Lucknow. The court has also ordered the District Magistrate to take back any amount of government assistance given in this case.

What is the case?

Advocate Laavan Singh and his partner Sunil Dubey had filed a false case regarding a land dispute. They deliberately showed Sunil’s car collision as under the SC-ST Act and claimed that this attack was done on caste basis. They also filed a false case of attempted murder on the basis of Sunil’s caste.

Investigation revealed

Police investigation revealed that this incident did not happen at the spot and the case was completely fabricated. The investigation also revealed that a settlement was later reached with the person with whom the car collided.

Court’s stance

The special court believed that this entire case is a clear example of malicious and misuse of law. The court said that such false cases not only tarnish the image of innocent people but also affect the credibility of the justice system.

Important instructions

The prosecution also told the court that Lavan Singh had hatched this conspiracy with the intention of implicating a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste in a false case.

The court directed the DM that if the accused has received any financial assistance under any scheme, it should be withdrawn immediately.
