In the Indian market, the demand for vehicles powered by alternative fuels is steadily increasing. Among these, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is making its mark not only in cars but also in the two-wheeler segment. The launch of the Bajaj Freedom 125 has paved the way for other manufacturers to explore this category.
Reflecting this trend, TVS showcased its CNG-powered scooter at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025, held in January. While automakers are actively working on developing CNG models, companies specializing in fuel conversion kits are also gaining prominence. One such company is Vibuh, which offers certified LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) kits for two-wheelers and cars.
Innovative LPG Kit for Two-Wheelers by Vibuh
Vibuh has introduced an advanced LPG kit that can be installed in both scooters and cars. This kit is designed to use the same LPG gas commonly used in households for cooking. It is a compact system that fits into the boot space, or the under-seat storage compartment, of a scooter. The tank capacity of the scooter-specific kit is approximately 5 liters.
After installing this LPG kit, the fuel efficiency of the scooter improves significantly. Since LPG is much cheaper compared to petrol, the running cost per kilometer is drastically reduced.
Substantial Cost Savings
According to Vibuh, a petrol-powered scooter modified with their LPG kit costs just around 1 rupee per kilometer to operate. This is a significant reduction compared to the expense of running a petrol scooter, which typically costs around 120 rupees to cover a distance of 50 kilometers. In contrast, the same distance would cost only about 50 rupees with LPG. On average, a petrol scooter offers a mileage of roughly 45 kilometers per liter, with petrol prices hovering around 110 rupees per liter.
Space Considerations and Installation Costs
The LPG kit designed for scooters is compact enough to fit snugly in the under-seat storage area. However, it does reduce the available storage space. Users may find it challenging to store larger items like a helmet, though smaller belongings can still be accommodated. For cars, Vibuh offers a larger kit with a 32-liter tank capacity.
In terms of cost, installing the LPG kit in a scooter is estimated at around 10,000 to 11,000 rupees. Despite the initial investment, users can expect to save thousands of rupees each month on fuel expenses. Additionally, the use of LPG as a fuel source contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions, promoting a cleaner environment.
