New FASTag Rule to Prevent Unnecessary Toll Deductions
If you are a vehicle owner or driver, this update from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is crucial for you. Recently, NHAI has introduced changes to FASTag rules, ensuring that unnecessary toll deductions no longer occur. This decision has provided significant relief to commuters by preventing undue charges and saving money. Let’s take a closer look at the new regulations.
FASTag is Now Mandatory for All Vehicles
The NHAI has made FASTag compulsory for all vehicles, making it a necessary component for toll payments. The primary goal behind this initiative is to streamline traffic flow at toll plazas, reduce congestion, and encourage digital payments. With FASTag, payments are deducted automatically, and users can conveniently recharge their accounts through mobile apps, ensuring seamless transactions.
Heavy Penalties for Toll Operators Engaging in Wrongful Deductions
According to recent reports, the Toll Management Body of NHAI, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), has decided to impose penalties of up to Rs 1 lakh on toll operators engaging in unfair deductions. This new policy has already led to a 70% decline in such incidents. At present, IHMCL receives approximately 50 complaints related to wrongful toll deductions each month, even as the number of FASTag transactions across National Highway Toll Plazas exceeds 30 crore.
How to Report Wrongful Toll Deductions
A senior official from IHMCL has assured that customers who experience incorrect toll deductions can raise their concerns through multiple channels. Complaints can be lodged on social media platforms or directly reported to IHMCL through formal channels. Additionally, affected users can call the helpline number 1033 or send an email to falsededuction@ihmcl.com to seek resolution.
Complaints Are Addressed with Thorough Investigations
Each case of wrongful toll deduction undergoes a detailed investigation. If a customer’s complaint is found to be valid, a chargeback is processed, and the deducted amount is promptly refunded. Furthermore, toll operators found guilty of making wrongful deductions can face penalties of up to Rs 1 lakh. This measure aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the toll collection system.
With these new rules, NHAI is taking strict action against unauthorized toll deductions, ensuring that drivers only pay what is required and helping to maintain a smooth highway experience for all commuters.
