According to a report by Oddity Central, a man named Kapinga (Mzee Ernesto Muinuchi Kapinga) from a small village in Tanzania created a household so unique that it gained worldwide attention. Currently, he is the head of a massive family consisting of 16 wives, 104 children, and 144 grandchildren. His home is more of a self-sustaining village than a traditional household, where meals are prepared on a grand scale similar to a community feast. The atmosphere is always bustling with activity, resembling a continuous festival. Kapinga’s journey into polygamy began in 1961 when he had his first child. Encouraged by his father, who offered dowry money for additional marriages, he expanded his family significantly.
Marrying Seven Real Sisters
Kapinga’s father financially supported five of his marriages, but the remaining unions were a result of his own decisions. Over time, he married 20 women in total. While some of his wives passed away and others left, 16 of them remain by his side. Among them, seven are real sisters who decided to marry Kapinga because of his good reputation. Each wife has her own separate home and prepares meals individually, but they all engage in farming, work collectively, and dine together. Their household functions more like a well-organized system rather than a conventional home.
