
The central government has introduced a significant reform in Aadhaar card verification. Private companies are now permitted to integrate Aadhaar-based face authentication into their mobile applications, simplifying access to services for the general public.
To streamline this process, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has launched a dedicated portal, (swik.meity.gov.in). This platform enables both government and private organizations to facilitate Aadhaar verification, ensuring more convenient service delivery. Eligible institutions can apply for Aadhaar authentication through this portal, and upon approval, they can incorporate it into their offerings.
Aadhaar, a unique identification number issued by the Government of India, serves as an essential identity document for residents. While the Supreme Court has ruled that Aadhaar usage is voluntary, it remains mandatory for specific government schemes and tax-related services. UIDAI has introduced various authentication methods, including face verification and OTP, to enhance Aadhaar security.
What’s New in Aadhaar Authentication Rules?
The government has revised the Aadhaar Act, extending Aadhaar authentication access to private companies. Previously, only government agencies were authorized to use it. With this amendment, officially notified on January 31, 2025, Aadhaar verification will now streamline operations in industries such as hospitality, healthcare, e-commerce, education, and credit rating.

To further strengthen security, UIDAI has introduced the Virtual ID (VID), allowing Aadhaar holders to verify their identity without disclosing their Aadhaar number. Additionally, Aadhaar users now have the option to lock and unlock their biometric data, ensuring greater control over their personal information.
