Deeply Hurt by Pahalgam Tragedy, Indore Man Leaves Islam, Returns to Sanatan Dharma

Shaken by the horrific killing of 26 Hindus by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, a Muslim man from Indore has decided to renounce Islam and embrace Sanatan Dharma once again. Shahabuddin, who had been serving as a caretaker at the Dargah of Syed Nizamuddin in the Kulkarni Bhatta area for nearly 40 years, made this life-changing decision.

What Did Shahabuddin Express?

As reported by Dainik Jagran, Shahabuddin, after leaving Islam, changed his name to Shyamlal. He shared that witnessing how terrorists brutally murdered Hindus after identifying their religion deeply disturbed him. After much reflection, he realized his earlier choices were wrong. Declaring his new path, Shyamlal announced that instead of Qawwalis, the Dargah would now resonate with the recitation of Hanuman Chalisa and Sunderkand.

Spiritual Celebrations and Bhandara at the Dargah

In celebration of Shyamlal’s return to his roots, the Dargah that once echoed with Qawwalis hosted a recital of Ramayan, Sunderkand, and Hanuman Chalisa. A grand Bhandara (community feast) was also organized to mark the occasion. Shyamlal revealed that although he was originally a Sanatani, he had converted to Islam under the influence of Qawwalis many years ago. Today, he feels he has corrected that mistake. Interestingly, several members from the local Muslim community also participated in the Bhandara, expressing their condemnation of the Pahalgam massacre.

Two-Minute Silence for Pahalgam Victims

During the ceremony, Shyamlal observed a two-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Reflecting on his decision, he said, “I had lost my way earlier, but now I have found my true path again.” Committed to his renewed faith, Shyamlal has also taken a pledge to continue the recitation of Sunderkand at the Dargah throughout the year.
