The voting process for the Delhi Assembly elections concluded on Wednesday, and now all eyes are on the vote counting scheduled for February 8. Meanwhile, a surprising statement has emerged from Sajid Rashidi, the President of the All India Imam Association. Rashidi revealed that for the first time in his life, he has voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi elections.
Sajid Rashidi’s Shocking Statement
In a video shared by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Sajid Rashidi is seen expressing his decision to vote for BJP. He stated:
“Friends, I have cast my vote. The results will decide who forms the government in Delhi. You might be surprised to know that I have voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is the first time in my life that I have supported BJP. There are multiple reasons behind this decision. Until now, Muslims were often accused of voting just to defeat the BJP, but today, I have voted to ensure BJP’s victory in Delhi. There are many other reasons for this.”
His statement has sparked discussions in political circles, as it signifies a shift in voting patterns that could impact the election results.
BJP Reacts to Rashidi’s Statement
After Rashidi’s pro-BJP stance, Amit Malviya responded by sharing the video on X, stating:
“Sajid Rashidi from the All India Imam Association has claimed that he voted for BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections. This is not an isolated incident. If Muslims begin supporting BJP in large numbers, so-called ‘secular’ parties should be worried.”
This statement suggests that BJP sees Rashidi’s vote as a sign of changing political dynamics in Delhi.
Exit Polls Predict BJP’s Victory
As per most exit polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to form the next government in Delhi, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is projected to fall behind. Meanwhile, Congress is expected to continue its poor performance in the elections.
However, different exit polls have predicted varying margins of BJP’s victory:
- Some polls suggest BJP could secure 51-60 out of 70 assembly seats in Delhi.
- A few surveys indicate AAP might still have a chance of victory.
The final election results, which will be declared on February 8, will determine whether these predictions hold true.
