
A fresh incident of Jalabhishek inside the Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, has come to light on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. A woman placed a Shivling inside the historic monument and performed religious rituals, including offering Ganga water and lighting incense sticks. She also chanted sacred mantras and proclaimed “Bam-Bam Bhole Jai Shiv Shankar” in reverence to Lord Shiva.
Devotee Brings Ganga Water from Mahakumbh for Worship
As per reports, the woman involved in this ritual has been identified as Meera Rathore, who serves as the District President of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha Mahila Morcha. On Wednesday, during the Maha Shivratri celebrations, she arrived at the Taj Mahal around 10 AM, carrying a bottle of Ganga water along with other worship essentials. She placed a Shivling inside the monument and performed the ceremonial Jalabhishek with the holy water sourced from the Mahakumbh.

The Taj Mahal, renowned worldwide as a symbol of Mughal architecture and love, is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. However, this Maha Shivratri saw an unexpected spiritual and historical moment unfold as devotees conducted worship within the premises. The ritual involved anointing the Shivling with sacred water brought from Prayagraj Kumbh, signifying devotion to Lord Shiva.
Recurrence of Similar Incidents in the Past
This is not the first time that such an event has taken place at the Taj Mahal. A similar instance occurred on August 3, 2024, when two youths ascended the monument carrying Ganga water, which they sprinkled over the dome. Both individuals were reportedly affiliated with the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha. Their act was captured on video and widely shared on social media. Following the incident, law enforcement took action by registering a case against the youths and subsequently arresting them.
The latest occurrence of Jalabhishek within the Taj Mahal has once again sparked discussions surrounding religious sentiments and the historical significance of the monument.
